Coach’s Corner

If you are selected by the coaches selection committee to be a head coach we will ask you to complete a mandatory background check. The cost of this service has risen significantly and therefore we will not ask coaches to do this ahead of time as they may not be selected to coach. If you are chosen to coach you will receive a $75 discount on your players registration.

General Information

Portsmouth Youth Basketball’s primary objective is to assist each player in developing, refining and enhancing fundamental basketball skills in a positive environment. PYB believes in providing coaches with the tools and knowledge to effectively teach the players basketball. Each coach will be given specific information on the drills and skills to teach their players during the season to ensure consistency across all teams within the league. Please note, during the PYB regular season all players must play 50% of each game.

Coaching tools will include a coach’s manual upon request, sample practice plans and a coach’s clinic sponsored by the league to review drills and skills.

Coach Background Check Form
Each PYB coach and league volunteer complete an online background check application before the start of the season. Please note, each application will be reviewed by the volunteer review board prior to being assigned to a team.
